These green decking screws are a solid, affordable choice for fixing softwood decking boards. Designed for fast installation and a tight grip, they’re coated to withstand up to 500 hours in salt spray testing – perfect for most garden decks and outdoor timber structures.

With a reduced head, these screws sit flush in the board for a clean finish. The helix design helps stop timber jacking and improves the hold as you drive the screw in, clamping the boards firmly in place.

✔ Great for softwood decking
✔ Green coating for corrosion resistance outdoors
✔ Helix shank stops boards lifting
✔ Reduced head gives a neat, flush finish
✔ Quick and easy to drive in – ideal for rapid installs

Best Practice for Screw Positioning
For a secure and tidy finish, place decking screws 15–20mm in from each edge of the board and evenly across the joist. Avoid putting screws too close to the edge – it increases the chance of splitting.

Use two screws per joist on each board to stop twisting and give even pressure. Keep your lines straight – not just for looks, but to help prevent uneven tension across the deck over time.

Should You Drill Pilot Holes First?
For softwood decking, pilot holes usually aren’t needed – these screws are designed to bite straight in.

That said, if your timber is particularly dry, old, or likely to split (like reclaimed wood), it’s worth drilling a small pilot first to protect the board. And if you're working close to the edge, a pilot hole can make all the difference.

Why Not Just Use Wood Screws?
Standard wood screws might look similar, but they’re not designed to handle the job long-term. These decking screws are built specifically for the outdoors – with a corrosion-resistant coating and a helix shank to keep boards pulled tight to the joist.

Unlike wood screws, they:

  • Resist rust and snapping in outdoor conditions
  • Clamp decking boards better to reduce squeaks and movement
  • Stay flush without splitting the timber
  • Spend a bit more than wood screws – save a lot more on rework.
