Single Piece Masonry Hangers

Single piece masonry hangers are designed to support timber joists built into brick or block walls. They provide a simple and reliable way to fix timber floor joists into masonry structures without the need for complex carpentry joints.

These hangers are commonly used in structural timber work including:

  • floor joist installations
  • timber extensions
  • loft conversions
  • renovation projects

Manufactured from pre-galvanised steel, Timco single piece masonry hangers offer strong corrosion resistance and are suitable for service class 2 environments. The galvanised finish helps protect the hanger from moisture and long-term corrosion in typical building conditions.

Unlike welded masonry hangers, these brackets are formed from a single folded piece of steel with no welds, creating a strong and cost-effective fixing solution for many structural timber installations.

The design features a straight top flange, allowing the hanger to be easily built into brick or block walls during construction or installed during renovation work by raking out existing mortar joints.

Timco masonry hangers conform to Eurocode 6, ensuring they meet recognised standards for masonry construction accessories.

For deeper joists or higher structural loads, welded masonry hangers may be a better option due to their reinforced construction.

Available Single Piece Masonry Hanger Sizes

Choosing the correct hanger size ensures the timber joist sits securely within the bracket and transfers load safely into the masonry wall.

Hanger Size Joist Size W × H (mm) Typical Applications
47 × 100 47 × 100 Light floor joists and timber framing
47 × 125 47 × 125 Standard domestic floor joists
47 × 150 47 × 150 Structural timber floor construction
47 × 175 47 × 175 Heavier domestic floors and extensions
47 × 200 47 × 200 Deep joists used in structural timber floors
47 × 225 47 × 225 Larger structural floor systems

Note: Hangers above 150mm are manufactured 10mm shorter to allow for notching and regularised timber.

How Masonry Joist Hangers Are Installed

Single piece masonry hangers are typically installed in one of two ways.

Built Into Masonry
In new construction, the hanger is positioned against the block or brick wall and then built into the masonry as additional courses are laid above it. The timber joist is then inserted into the hanger once the wall has been completed.

Renovation Installation
For renovation work, the hanger can be fitted by raking out an existing mortar joint and sliding the hanger into place before repointing the joint with mortar or structural resin.

What Are Single Piece Masonry Hangers Used For?

Single piece masonry hangers are commonly used when timber floor joists need to be supported directly from brick or block walls.

Typical applications include:

  • supporting timber floor joists in house extensions
  • fixing joists into masonry walls during renovations
  • timber floors built into blockwork structures

Because they are manufactured from a single folded steel component, they provide a straightforward and economical solution for many structural timber installations.
