Standard Timber Hanger
Standard timber hangers provide a simple and reliable way to support timber joists from beams, wall plates and ledger boards in timber-to-timber structural connections.
Standard Timber Hangers
Standard timber hangers are designed to support timber joists in timber-to-timber structural connections. They provide a simple and reliable method of fixing joists to beams, wall plates or ledger boards without the need for complex carpentry joints.
The Timco timber hanger range offers a practical solution for a variety of structural timber applications including floor joists, stairwell trimming and general timber framing.
Manufactured from pre-galvanised steel, these hangers provide strong corrosion resistance and are suitable for most internal structural timber work. For environments where higher corrosion resistance is required, selected sizes are also available in A2 stainless steel. Stainless steel should be used where the environment is corrosive or where the base material has inherent corrosive characteristics such as green oak.
Timco timber hangers conform to Eurocode 5 and Service Class 3, helping ensure reliable performance in structural timber installations.
The increased leg lengths allow all hanger widths to support joists up to 225mm deep, making them suitable for a wide range of structural timber applications.
Typical Timber Hanger Sizes
Selecting the correct hanger size ensures the timber joist fits securely within the bracket and transfers load safely into the supporting timber beam or ledger.
| Joist Size W x H (mm) | Typical Applications |
|---|---|
| 47 x 100 – 47 x 150 | Standard floor joists and domestic timber framing |
| 47 x 175 – 47 x 200 | Structural floor joists and stairwell trimming |
| 47 x 225 | Deeper joists used in structural timber floors |
| 75 x 150 – 75 x 225 | Wider structural joists and timber beams |
| 90 x 150 – 100 x 225 | Large structural joists in timber framing |
When to Use Standard Timber Hangers
Standard timber hangers are typically used for general timber joist installations where the joist connects directly to another timber member.
They are commonly used for:
- floor joist installation
- timber framing
- stairwell trimming
- fixing joists to ledger boards
For projects requiring deeper joists or special fixing configurations, other hanger types such as long leg timber hangers or mini timber hangers may be more suitable.
