Timber & Landscaping Screws
Heavy-duty timber screws designed for structural outdoor fixing, landscaping projects and demanding timber-to-timber applications.
Our Timber & Landscaping Screws are engineered for structural timber applications where strength, corrosion resistance and installation speed matter. Designed as a modern alternative to traditional coach screws, these timber screws provide superior clamping performance and faster driving, making them ideal for landscaping, fencing, pergolas and sleeper construction.
The range includes hex head and wafer head designs, with exterior-coated and stainless steel options to suit general outdoor builds through to coastal and green oak projects.
Unlike standard wood screws, structural timber screws feature deep threads, debris-clearing shanks and reinforced heads to deliver high pull-out resistance and strong pull-together performance in structural timber.
Hex vs Wafer Head – What’s the Difference?
| Head Type | Best For | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Hex Head | Heavy structural timber & landscaping | High torque driving & maximum clamping force |
| Wafer Head | Decking frames & visible timber builds | Wider bearing surface with lower-profile finish |
Hex head screws are typically chosen for sleeper retaining walls, structural posts and heavy timber joints.
Wafer head screws offer strong clamping with a cleaner appearance where the screw head remains visible.
Exterior Coated vs Stainless Steel
| Finish | Recommended Use | Corrosion Performance |
|---|---|---|
| Exterior Green | General landscaping & treated timber | 1,000hr salt spray resistance |
| Exterior Silver | Structural outdoor timber | High corrosion resistance |
| A2 Stainless Steel | General external use | Strong corrosion resistance |
| A4 Stainless Steel | Coastal, high moisture & green oak | Maximum corrosion resistance |
What Size Timber Screw Should You Use?
For structural timber fixing, screw length is critical.
As a general guide:
Choose a screw that penetrates at least 2–3× the thickness of the top timber into the base material.
| Top Timber Thickness | Recommended Screw Length | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| 25–30mm | 75–100mm | Decking boards & light framing |
| 35–50mm | 100–150mm | Fence rails & sleeper joins |
| 50mm+ | 150–300mm | Posts, retaining walls & heavy landscaping |
Typical Applications
Landscaping & Timber Screws are commonly used for:
- Sleeper retaining walls
- Pergolas and garden structures
- Fence posts and rails
- Decking subframes
- Timber framing
- Raised beds and planters
