Exterior Green Hex Timber Screws
Heavy-duty exterior wood screws designed for decking, sleepers and treated timber landscaping projects.
Exterior Green Hex Timber Screws are high-performance exterior wood screws designed for strong timber-to-timber fixing in outdoor environments. Coated with a patented multi-layer corrosion-resistant plating tested to 1,000 hours salt spray resistance (BS EN 9227:2012), they provide long-term protection for decking, fencing, sleeper walls and general landscaping work.
Designed as a modern alternative to the traditional coach screw, these green hex head timber screws offer faster installation and stronger pull-together performance. The integrated fixed washer head delivers high clamping force, while allowing high torque driving with a socket or impact driver.
The 50° deep single thread provides excellent pull-out resistance in softwood and treated timber. Meanwhile, the helix shank removes debris as the screw drives, improving clamping efficiency and reducing resistance. A sharp 25° point with single slash tip helps reduce splitting, even at lower edge distances.
In most softwoods and treated timbers, a pilot hole is not required, helping to reduce installation time on site. For dense hardwoods or highly corrosive environments such as Green Oak, A4 stainless steel fixings should be used instead.
Why Choose Exterior Green Wood Screws for Decking?
Exterior green wood screws are ideal for treated timber projects because:
- The green coating blends with pressure-treated timber
- The 1,000hr corrosion resistance protects against outdoor moisture
- The deep thread delivers strong hold in decking subframes
- The hex head allows controlled, high-torque installation
They are commonly used for decking frames, sleeper retaining walls, pergolas, raised beds and fencing structures.

Choosing the Right Length
As a general guide, select a screw that penetrates at least 2.5–3 times the thickness of the top timber into the base material.
- 50mm boards → 125–150mm screws
- Standard fencing → 75–100mm screws
- Sleepers → 150mm and above
Selecting the correct length ensures maximum structural holding strength and long-term performance outdoors.
