Wafter Head Timber Screws – Exterior Green
Exterior green wafer head timber screws designed for strong clamping and a low-profile finish in decking and landscaping projects.
Exterior Green Wafer Head Timber Screws are designed as a modern alternative to traditional coach screws, providing strong timber-to-timber fixing with a neater, lower-profile finish.
Coated with a multi-layer corrosion-resistant exterior plating tested to 1,000 hours salt spray resistance (BS EN 9227:2012), these exterior wood screws are ideal for decking frames, fencing, sleeper walls and general landscaping applications. The green finish blends well with pressure-treated timber, making them suitable for visible outdoor projects.
The wafer head design provides a wide clamping surface while sitting flatter against the timber than a hex head screw. This improves pull-up performance while maintaining a cleaner visual result.
A TX recess allows secure driving with reduced cam-out, while the helix shank removes debris during installation to improve clamping efficiency. The sharp 25° point and single slash tip help reduce splitting, even at lower edge distances.
In most softwoods and treated timbers, a pilot hole is not required. For dense hardwoods or when fixing close to edges, pre-drilling is recommended.
For highly corrosive environments or when working with tannin-rich timbers such as Green Oak, A4 stainless steel screws should be used instead.
What Are Wafer Head Timber Screws Used For?
Wafer head timber screws are commonly chosen where:
- A strong exterior fixing is required
- A low-profile head is preferred
- Improved clamping area is beneficial
- Landscaping and decking structures need a discreet finish
Typical applications include:
- Decking subframes
- Sleeper retaining walls
- Fence rails and posts
- Pergolas and garden structures
Available Sizes
| Diameter | Available Lengths (mm) |
|---|---|
| 6.7mm | 95, 125, 150, 175 |
| 8.0mm | 200, 225, 250, 275, 300, 350, 400 |
Choosing the Right Length
As a general guide, select a screw that penetrates approximately 2–3× the thickness of the top timber into the base material.
- 25–30mm boards → 75–100mm screws
- 35–50mm timber → 100–150mm screws
- 50mm+ structural timber → 150mm+ screws
Selecting the correct length ensures maximum holding strength and long-term stability in outdoor structures.
